Gopichand Malineni’s Veera Simha Reddy, starring Nandamuri Balakrishna, Shruti Haasan and Honey Rose is an out-and-out mass potboiler that’s sure to satiate die-hard fans. It’s a fun and exciting film to watch, but it’s also replete with flying bodies, loud punch dialogues, and scene after scene that exist solely for Balayya’s glory.

After the success of the recent blockbuster Akhanda, actor Nandamuri Balakrishna is back in the action genre with Gopichand Malineni’s Veera Simha Reddy. This is the first biggie to hit the screens in 2023 amidst high expectations.
The film stars Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role along with Shruti Haasan, Honey Rose and Duniya Vijay.

Veera Simha Reddy is a story of how Jai Simha Reddy, a businessman, falls in love with Eesha and gets marry to her. He is unaware that Meenakshi has been keeping a secret about her past from him all these years.
When she arrives in Turkey, Meenakshi reveals the truth about her past to Jai. She tells him that his father Veera Simha Reddy lives in Rayalaseema and rules Pulicharla.
However, Veera Simha Reddy does not want to let his son get marry and so, he refuses the proposal. Meenakshi decides to send Jai to Turkey for his wedding, where he meets Veera Simha Reddy for the first time.
Meanwhile, Veera Simha Reddy has a rival faction leader named Pratap Reddy (Duniya Vijay) who tries to kill him at various times. The rivalry enrages Bhanumathi (Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar), Veera Simha Reddy’s step-sister who also wants to avenge her brother’s death.
The film follows the typical template of Balakrishna-led actioners, which has eight large-scale fight scenes. This leads to a few moments of suspense but otherwise, the plot is predictable.
In the first half, Balakrishna does well with his character and the screenplay does a good job of introducing him to audiences. But the second half gets drab and boring and the movie loses its grip in the third. Thaman’s background score does not help, and the climax is just plain clumsy.

Balakrishna carries the film with his signature style of dialogue delivery and his performance as Veera Simha Reddy is as good as ever. The movie has a number of interesting scenes and songs and the cinematography is done by Rishi Punjabi.

The film has an interesting plot line that revolves around the village politics, killing and revenge. It is a family entertainer that will certainly be entertaining and the fans of Nandamuri Balakrishna will surely like it.
However, the movie is not yet available on any official platform and it is expecting to make its way onto OTT streaming service Like ibomma, Disney+ Hotstar in the latter half of February or early March. If it does, then it will be the first Telugu movie to stream on that platform.
The film directer is Gopichand Malineni, who has made a great name for himself with his previous films. The film has a good cast and the music by Thaman S is a highlight of the movie. The cinematographer is Rishi Punjabi and the production values are very good.
